After months of seeing our group members over Zoom meetings only, we are excited to announce we are now back in person across the State of Michigan!
All clinical staff has been vaccinated, are tested weekly and wear masks at all times. Group activities have continued to be adjusted to limit the exposure of group members and when appropriate, sessions are continuing to be virtual.
We are so happy to be seeing our group members' smiling faces once again in person!
For those struggling with dementia, we have seen symptoms increase rapidly over this time. We have seen anxiety, depression and isolation completely overwhelm group members. Hopelessness and feelings of sadness are common and many who were not suffering from depression or anxiety pre-Covid are now struggling with these feelings and/or illnesses.
Without our regular sessions, we have seen proof of what Tender Heart knows to be true:
caring for our group members' mental health is vital.
Across the state of Michigan, we have seen the positive impacts of our engagement as we begin focusing on a variety of mental health goals:
decreasing stress
coping with new separation from family & friends
challenging negative emotions
improving cognitive skills
decreasing frustration, hopelessness, fear
decreasing isolation
improving symptoms of their illness
providing mental health education
We have also expanded our services with individual sessions for group members who wish to see one of our social workers on their own.
It is safe & easy for your loved ones.
We know the importance of safety during this pandemic. Our clinical staff are vaccinated and tested each week, health screenings are completed each day and masks are worn at all times with group members.
To increase joy & reduce depression, isolation & fear.
Your loved one may be dealing with depression, isolation & fear like never before. If they have been experiencing dementia, you may have noticed a progression of their symptoms. Our group sessions can reduce depression, isolation and fear and replace these feelings with joy, laughter and relief of being able to communicate with someone who cares.
Each group is facilitated by a Master's Level Social Worker.
Our social workers are fully licensed MSWs, meaning they have attended Graduate Programs and engage in training yearly. We work as a team across the state of Michigan to share best practices and problem-solve together often, ensuring the best possible services for your loved ones.
"I love that I can do a 1-on-1 with you now. It's easier for me to talk about what's going on without having to worry about what other people are going to think."
"We get to support each other. I knew that Susie (name changed to protect confidentiality) was struggling because of our group last week so I checked in on her to make sure she was doing okay I didn't know she needed me before."
"This is all really well-done. It's organized, it's easy, we just get on her and talk. Really, this is great."
"This group makes me feel really good, I can get things out and share, plus I know now that other people feel the same way."
"I haven't had this much fun since I climbed apple trees with my brothers."
"I'm sad, until I'm here with you.
Then I feel a lot better."
